While we know you’ve come to Costa Rica and Real Surf Trips to explore our local surf spots, we also invite you to learn about our local culture during your stay with us. Guaitil is a small town that still practices some of the traditions of the indigenous cultures of Costa Rica. The entire town is dedicated to the production of clay pottery and offers a slice of the mesoamerican indigenous culture.
Located just a short drive from the Real Surf Trips Wavehouse in Playa Negra, Guaitil is a community rich with Costa Rica tradition. The Guaitil pottery created here is crafted in the pre-Columbian Chorotega style, using most often the colors of red, cream and black. Local clay is used and pottery and ceramics are crafted using the same types of tools and techniques that were used by the Guaitil ancestors.
So when you need to take a break from the waves and want to explore the local countryside, we’ll be happy to arrange a visit with the local artisans in Guaitil.
Real Surf Trips in Playa Negra, Costa Rica provides its guests with first class accommodations, one-of-a-kind service and over 20 years of local surf knowledge, guaranteed to give you the Costa Rica Surf Trip you’ve been dreaming of!
