Costa Rica is translated as Rich Coast and it’s no wonder given the rich, natural beauty found throughout our country, especially along our Nicoya Peninsula coastline. The Nicoya Peninsula where we’re located is primarily known as the Guanacaste province with just a small portion of the land at its southern tip being in the province of Puntarenas.
In 1824, Guanacaste became a part of Costa Rica (seceding from Nicaragua) and every year on July 25th, we celebrate this national holiday with parades, festivals and rodeos. The Guanacaste Tree is also Costa Rica’s National Tree.
But what Guanacaste is really known for nowadays is its beautiful coastline, friendly people and incredible surf. It’s considered one of the world’s “blue zones” and the way of life here is a slower, more simple pace. The people work hard but also may enjoy an afternoon siesta in a shaded hammock to take a break from the warm tropical sun.
Along the coastline, you’ll find both black and white sand beaches, turtle nesting sites and an abundance of wildlife. Nature dominates here with small towns interspersed between the tropical dry forest. People are often amazed when they walk from the Real Surf Trips Wavehouse out to Playa Negra and see both the typical palm trees alongside tall desert cactus!
During your Costa Rica surf vacation with us, we’ll be happy to arrange tours of our area and activities in order for you to explore and get to know the Guanacaste way of life.
