Photo Apr 24, 7 00 41 PMPlaya Negra is a quiet beach, a few miles from the Tamarindo crowd and a much better place to check out the wildlife of Costa Rica as there are less people and a lot less development.  Here you can find many different species of birds, amphibians and reptiles, mammals and sealife.

Birds: Native to the area include seagulls, pelicans, frigates and magpies; there are also a few that migrate through the Nicoya Peninsula although many more can be found on the migration route near the Caribbean.

Amphibians and reptiles: We have lots of frogs and lizards that your kids will especially enjoy on your Costa Rica family vacation!  You’ll see the big garrobos in the trees or sometimes sunning themselves on our pool deck.

Mammals: In the area you can also find in land other kind of wildlife like the raccoons, squirrels, and for sure the howler monkeys that you can see (and hear) cruising along the trees.

Sealife: Passing from land to water, we have a great number of species that travel around the north pacific waters such as the sail fish, the three kinds of marlin (lined marlin, black marlin and the biggest one: the blue marlin).  Also can be found are mahi mahi, wahoo, snapper, rouster fish, amber fish, gree jack, mackerel, black tuna and yellow fin tuna among others.

For bigger and different species on the water, we often see on our boat tours playful dolphins and several different sea turtles.  The dolphins are easy to see farther from land swimming in big groups. The turtle is pretty common to our coastal shores, almost year round.  During certain times of year, you will also see humpback whales with their babies, migrating in our area for periods of 2-3 months.

Next to the surf, possibly the most spectacular show of mother nature and our rich wildlife can be seen in and around Playa Negra, Guanacaste.
