The capital of Costa Rica is San Jose where there is an international airport along with the airport closer to our Playa Negra location, Liberia (LIR).
Pura Vida, the mantra of Costa Rica, means ‘pure life,’ which translates to living a rich and happy life. People who live in Costa Rica are generally happy people, full of life and energy. They are very welcoming to the more than 2.2 million visitors who have come looking for Pura Vida in the country. This mantra is also used to say hello, in response to “How are you” and to say goodbye.
National symbols in Costa Rica are cherished by those who live in the country. There is great pride amongst the Costa Rica population, who call themselves Ticos/Ticas. The flag of Costa Rica, the bird and flower are among the symbols that Costa Ricans hold near and dear to their heart. The National Anthem is one of the country’s greatest expressions of freedom and pride. The country flower is the La Guaria Morado, a beautiful Orchid. The El yiguirro, Clay-colored thrush, has been the national bird of Costa Rica since 1976. Costa Rica also has a national shield that they have proudly displayed since 1848. The shield shows seven stars above the volcano.
