What is El Veranillo de San Juan?
El Veranillo de San Juan is commonly known as Costa Rica’s Little Summer. The dates are usually between July 1st and August 15th.
This is when Ticos that live in parts of Alajuela, Puntarenas, and Guanacaste experience a more summer-like climate.. During this time, the sun comes out and the weather is warm and beautiful once again. While we don’t get much rain in the Guanacaste province and often feel like we have summer year round, we still enjoy the notion of El Veranillo de San Juan. And while some people feel that this event is just a folkloric myth, others make special plans to celebrate it!
