“¡Bienvenidos a Panamá” or in English, “Welcome to Panama”! The Caribbean coast of this amazing country is exclusively recognized for its seemingly endless series of islands, ripe with reef breaks, beach breaks and slabs. It is exposed to the Atlantic Ocean swells which rock this zone from October to February, with a mini-season in June/July giving visiting surfers an ocean of opportunities, literally. Such a geography would make one often think that Panama was specifically curated to give surfers the best surfing experience of their lives….well, we are not sure about that, but we can definitely vouch for it!
Nestled among the many seductive islands and mainland cloud forest mountains, lies Bocas del Toro, Panama’s top travel destination. Colorful and full of exotic Caribbean flair, this archipelago boasts warm, turquoise, stunning beaches, and world-class waves for all levels of surfers. In 1502, the island was visited by Columbus and it is said that he was so mesmerized by Bocas’s natural beauty that he self-titled many of the islets. While Columbus wasn’t a surfer himself, he clearly saw the potential of Bocas and 6 centuries later, Bocas is proving Columbus right, every moment of every day!
Bocas del Toro has become the most popular surfing destination on the Caribbean side of Central America, with the main island’s six breaks, and the other islands unlimited potential for exploration. The location offers versatility to engage professional as well as beginner surfers equally. Unlike other surfing destinations with difficult access and privatized coastlines, Bocas del Toro offers boat access to a coastline that has drawn surfers from all over the world, including Tom Curren and Mick Fanning- who was personally hosted and guided by our professional and knowledgeable staff. Conditions are ever changing and tricky, but with over two decades of full-time experience here and excellent boats and surf captains, we have it dialed.
Real Surf Trips looks forward to creatively curating your crew’s ideal surf vacation. Tell us what your interests are, together we will design your trip based on your preferences and how much surf you can handle! Together, we will ensure that you have the best time in this tropical surf paradise.
