When the waves are good, you want to spend as much time surfing as possible. A typical session for us at Real Surf Trips can last up to three hours. So it makes sense to fuel our bodies with high quality, nutrient dense food to allow us adequate time in the water.

Here are five tips to keep you healthy and get the most out of your session!

1). EAT REAL FOODS

Real food is wholesome and nourishing to the body. It is minimally processed and maintains its natural integrity. Aim to eat whole foods with little ingredients.

2). EAT SLOWLY

Turn off the news, set aside your phone, and take time to simply enjoy your meal. Sit down, relax, and savor every bite of your food.

3). GO ORGANIC WHEN POSSIBLE

Try to consume food as close to its natural source as possible. We here at Real Surf Trips are lucky enough to have an organic farm right up the street. If you don’t have access to a local farm, educate yourself on where your food comes from. Small local grocers and farmers markets have many organic options.

4). DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Most health experts recommend eight glasses of water a day. However, if you just had a two hour session it’s obviously wise to drink more. We believe half your body weight in ounces with keep you well hydrated. Start your day with two glasses in the morning to cleanse your body. If you can’t stand drinking water, try adding some citrus to liven it up! Lemons are our favorite.

5). SMOOTHIES

Our favorite post surf meal are smoothies. They are hands down the best fast-food and the fastest energy booster. Add some whey or hemp protein to your smoothie to adequately recover from your surf session.

We hope these tips help you become a healthier and happier surfer!
