Costa Rica is known for being a beautiful country, filled with amazing beaches and warm weather, but did you also know that it’s one of five Blue Zones in the world? And that the Blue Zone is actually located in the Peninsula where Real Surf Trips is located?
So what is a Blue Zone?
After extensive research, scientists have discovered that people living in the ‘Blue Zones’ around the world actually have the longest life expectancy of anyone in the entire world. The reasons? There are many reasons that have been suggested, but discovering the true cause of the mystery is difficult.
Costa Rica, in general, actually has a longer life expectancy than most parts of the world, but the Blue Zone where we’re located on the Nicoya Peninsula has been found to have an even stronger depiction of this, with people living easily into their 90’s and even 100’s. Though there are several Blue Zones located around the world, ours seems to be exhibiting amazing results for many of its locals.
What causes these Blue Zones? Scientists have found several different factors that seem to play a very big role in this, such as:
- Focus on others/family rather than the self
- Moderate but regular physical activity
- Little to no smoking or drinking
- Less stress
- Purpose in life
These factors, which have all been touted by scientists for generations as being good for our health, are seen more frequently in the Blue Zones. As a result, scientists believe this to be a simple manifestation of all the advice we’ve been given, but it’s difficult to maintain these traits in an environment that is causing its own form of pollution.
