DSC_2406Dreaming of sea spray, perfect rollers and whitecaps? If you’re itching to Hang Ten, then maybe it’s time to reserve a spot on the sand at our location in Playa Negra, Costa Rica. Near Tamarindo and known for lush tropical jungles, white sand beaches, abundant wildlife and turquoise water, our local area also has quality waves that will satisfy even the most experienced surfers looking for giant breaks and hollow tubes. If you have seen the movie ‘The Endless Summer,’ then you’ll know about the serious barrels filmed at nearby Witches Rock. An easy boat ride up the coast will get you there.

If you’re thinking about booking your next surf trip to Costa Rica, you can rest assured that while our high surf season is from March-October, we actually have good waves and conditions here on the Nicoya Peninsula year round…you just have to know where to go (and we do!). Year round, the ocean water hardly ever dips under 81 degrees and the air temperature is mild. Our team can provide you with daily surf reports and take you to all the best spots for catching a wave that is most suitable for your experience level.

Once you’re at the beach, remember everyone wants to have fun and it’s a good idea to practice the rules of surf etiquette so no one gets injured or upset. The most important rule is: Never drop in on another surfer while he’s riding a wave. Seems obvious now, but accidents happen and if you accidentally end up in the same wave make sure you apologize. If you respect others, they will respect you. Basically, the surfer at the peak of the wave will get the wave. If you want the next wave, paddle around but keep some distance from others. Try to surf waves that are within your ability and make sure you’ve got a leash so as to not let your board drift away.

The options for fun seem endless because when you’re not surfing or eating delicious locally grown healthy food and Costa Rican coffee, you might want to take a trip to one of the nearby National Parks to see Howler monkeys and other wildlife and birds. You can also choose to zip-line through a rainforest or go whitewater rafting. Or, you could decide to save your energy and enjoy a rejuvenating massage and a yoga session before you prepare to ride the next perfect wave.
