Lisa camp 1Costa Rica has so many good places for surfing along both shores, the Atlantic/Caribbean and the Pacific.  Our location in the Pacific Northwest has some of the best spots in the world, with ideal year-round conditions for the waves and weather.

In terms of equipment, all that you will really need is your board with the fins and leash plus a few good pairs of board shorts or a few bikinis.  Sometimes, you might want to use a rashguard when the sun is heating up during the day, and for sure don’t forget the sunscreen because with our tropical sunshine, your skin can easily burn.

In Costa Rica there are different types of breaks like reef breaks and beach breaks.  Each beach will probably have a different way to break: usually the reef breaks can stand up and break faster than the beach breaks which is why you have to look for the right type of fins depending on the wave, your weight and the board you’re using.  On big waves you might want to use a bigger set of fins as the size increases as waves come bigger and faster.  It allows you to have better control over the board when you’re doing the drop and riding it.
