DSC_3420While we have consistently good surf year round in Costa Rica, the best surf on Costa Rica’s northwest pacific shore can be found between the months of March and September. This is when we get the best waves of the year for perfect, fun filled days of surfing.

Air temperature is warm, ranging from 80-100F degrees. The water temperature is also perfect, right around 84 degrees. Our local area has plenty of surfing opportunities, many breaks that go unridden and are known only by locals (and our team at Real Surf Trips!). There are also an abundance of beaches all with different breaks, perfect for every level of surfer. With sun rise at 5:30 and sunset 12 hours later, you have plenty of time to catch a few sessions out on the waves.

A few quick reminders for your Costa Rica surf camp experience:

  • Because of our location near the equator, our tropical sun is hot. Bring a high SPF, waterproof sunscreen
  • Costa Rica is a laidback environment. Casual clothes, extra board shorts or bikinis are all appropriate.
  • Extra cash for lunches and meal that you eat outside of the camp. Or if you want to rent a board or bike during your stay with us. We are also happy to arrange land or sea activities like zip lining or snorkeling cruises.
  • Taking a vacation in Costa Rica during surf season will give you plenty of opportunities for outdoor enjoyment. Having some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, just lounging on the beach is a great activity, but during these months the surfing is just too great to resist.

The waves  are always plentiful and give for a great ride, but during the surf season in Costa Rica they are stronger, more abundant and will give you an experience you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Real Surf Trips in Costa Rica provides its guests with first class accommodations, one-of-a-kind service and over 20 years of local surf knowledge, guaranteed to give you the Costa Rica Surf Camp you’ve been dreaming of!
